this is pretty close but i think i will give the slight edge to the polar bear , they are a little bit bigger , have a stronger bite force and have sharper claws plus they take down things very large like small whales and walruses , but this is a very close fight and the kodiak grizzly has a good chance to win this.

As much as I like the polar bear, it will still lose to the Kodiak bear at equal weights but it will be a close fight. The polar bear has denser bones due to being a semi aquatic mammal, however, the brown bear has a shorter spine (for more strength) not to mention the shoulder hump. The largest 2200 pound polar bear would beat any wild Kodiak bear. The average Kodiak bear will beat an average polar bear.

Small whales and walruses are harder to kill than bovids because of the thick skin and blubber possessed by the former two and they have literally no neck.

Grizzly bears actually hunt larger prey on average than Kodiak bears do. However, diet doesn't always mean stronger.

The polar bear weighing 2200 pounds might by anecdotal as polar bears too heavy to lift by helicopters have been estimated to be around 800 pounds. Therefore, any polar bear heavier than that has never been measured.
